Affordability is and has been the talk for quite a while. However, from observation, most people fail to really understand what affordability really entails.

When discussing this crucial matter in the housing sector, we should be keen to note that affordable housing refers to housing that is most appropriate for the needs of a range of very low to moderate-income households, and it is priced in such a way as to allow the households to accommodate other basic living costs of food, clothing, transport, education, and medical care.

However, the definition of affordability remains to be relevant in reference to a household's individual circumstances ( single families, families taking care of terminally ill members, disabled, etc) and the demands on the same gross income which differs significantly.

It's not enough to just build "affordable units" instead let market research take precedence and create affordable units tailored to meet the needs of the people living within the area not leaving behind a number of units that meet the unique characteristics of such households.

In this way, we are sure to come closer to achieving the sustainable development goal.
