Homes have for the longest time had magnificent roofing options to make homes beautiful and outstanding.  Roofing homes, whether as a renovation project or part of a new home development plan, is quite interesting.

When roofs leak and appear unattractive, the home owner’s attitude shifts quickly from positive to negative. Great roofing that is done to “perfection” can increase the resale value of a home to prospective buyers of the property.

As eyes are windows to the soul so is the roofing system the “gateway” to a home. The following roofing materials will make a great choice for the homeowner:

1. Rolled Roofing

Rolled roofing is mostly used in shades and shops. These rolled roofing consists of asphalt-impregnated material topped with mineral granules. Additionally, they are used often because they are convenient, easy to make, and inexpensive to purchase. Furthermore, it has a long lifespan of about 10 years.

2. Built-Up Roofing

Built-up roofing has been in existence for a very long time. The materials in building this roofing consist of asphalt. In its construction, after asphalt is applied hot, the felt is applied in overlapping layers to form a barrier. This barrier ensures the roof is long-lasting and compact. BUR roof can last twenty to thirty years.

3. Membrane Roofing

Membrane roofing is mostly used for roofs that are very low. Membrane roofing is also known as synthetic roofing is applied in iron sheets where water can infiltrate. Water infiltration is important as it allows the soil to temporarily store water, making it available for use by plants and soil organisms. If well managed and maintained, membrane roofing can last 21 years to 35 years.

4. Asphalt Composite Shingles

These are mostly used in North America. In its make, it consists of fiberglass, mineral granules, and shingles. They have a twenty to twenty-seven-year warranty. If shingles are destroyed or have been damaged, it’s easy to replace them. Due to the shingles' expansion and contraction, they can be used for different types of homes and offices. The longevity of the roof is between 12 to 30 years.

5. Standing Seam Metal Roofing

In its usage, the seams are raised to keep moisture out. Metal roofing is conspicuous in regions experiencing heavy snowfall. Additionally, they are used in areas where wildfires are rampant. It is important to note that this roofing material is fireproof. Similarly, metal roofs can be recycled once they wear out. In installing this roofing, hire the right personnel because not every roofing company offers a standing seam metal roof. Metal roofs can last up to a decade as they are very durable.

6. Metal Shakes

Metal shakes are made of stamped metal and are finished with mineral granules. They can be made to look like traditional asphalt shingles. These metal shakes are durable. Additionally, they are easy to install. They can last up to 30 years. Interestingly, they offer the “interior design option” for the exterior of the house or home.

7. Wood Shingle or Shakes

Wood roofs are attractive but their downside is that it costs an arm and a leg. They cannot be used in areas with rampant wildfires. Most luxurious homes have wood roofing. The type of wood used in the construction of wood shakes is called cedar. As mentioned above, since they are expensive they are used sparingly. The longevity of this type of roofing depends on maintenance and the location where they are used.

8. Clay tile

Clay tiles are made from earthen clays that are interlocked into hard shapes for efficient longevity. The appearance of clay tile is reddish-orange. Usage of these clay tiles is an excellent option in areas where the climate consists of high temperatures. Most luxurious homes also use clay tiles.  Tiles are expensive. With proper care, clay tiles can last a very long time.

Although the renovation of roofing systems of homes is rarely done, with excellent roofing options considered and actualized in reality, homes will look beautiful and attractive. Additionally, the property valuation worth can escalate to the seller’s advantage if the roof looks fantastic and impresses any potential or prospective buyer of a home, property, or office.
