For most people, home maintenance is a daily struggle, especially when you do not have a home manager. However, it doesn’t have to be. You may wonder, where do I begin with all the things you have in your home, it may seem overwhelming and too demanding to embrace a simple life with fewer things.

Learning how to declutter your house or home doesn’t need any magic as you may imagine. And decluttering your home has been proven to have multiple benefits in an individual’s life.

The following as some of the benefits of decluttering our spaces:

Less stress: With the craziness of the times we live in and the everyday demands of our livelihood, surely having a cluttered home should not be one of our stressors. Decluttering allows you to enjoy the space without having a lot of clutter in your home.

Less to clean: Cleaning can be an exhausting chore, but having to clean around things that you don’t need in your house makes it more stressful. Decluttering gives you the freedom to clean less.

Less to organize: Decluttering is the hack you need to stop having endless runs around your house trying to find something. It makes things stop “disappearing” anymore.

DIY Decluttering Tips

1. Start small:

If you are a first-timer, you don’t have to declutter everything at a go. You can allocate 5 minutes each day to declutter things from a section of your house.

2. Give an item you don’t use or no longer need:

We often have things that we don’t use, don’t need in the hope that we will one time use it again, the thing you have thought of, it’s time to give it away. If you give things out, you are releasing space that was otherwise crowded.

3. Create a decluttering list:

Lists are a life-saver all the time. Knowing the things you have in your home, you can create a list as you move around your house of the things that you need to get rid of and get rid of them.

4. Take the 12-12-12 challenge:

Identify 12 items to throw away, 12 to donate, and 12 to be returned to their proper home.

5. View your home as a first-time visitor:

Enter your home as if you are visiting your friend, and write down your first impression on how clean and organized the home is and make changes.

6. Get help from a friend:

Have a close friend or family member come by and help you as you go through your home and suggest a handful of items to throw away or give to someone else. If you defend the item and want to keep it, your friend has to agree with your reason, if they don’t, it's time to say goodbye to it.
