The motorists have nonetheless been urged to be vigilant while using the road since the road markings are yet to be laid down.

The toll stations have already been set up at various points as the tarmacking of the road continues. Due to the ongoing construction, Mombasa road has been experiencing heavy traffic and the road users have lamented over the long hours that they spend on the road, therefore, the partial opening comes as a relief to them as it will help decongest the road.

Transport Cabinet Secretary CS, James Macharia requested the Chinese contractor to fix the old road in the underpass in order to ease the problematic traffic.

Last year, the President of Kenya, Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta made an impromptu visit to the site to inspect it’s progress and he affirmed that the project’s completion date will be met.

The Nairobi Express Way is being built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) which is being financed under public-private partnership model.

The CRBC will pocket about Shs.106.8 billion profit from the project for 27 years and later hand it over to the government. The project, upon completion will not only reduce the traffic nightmare along Mombasa Road but it will also be a step in achieving the country’s vision 2030.
