Details About Jalang'o's Wapek Delicacies Restaurant in Nairobi CBD

The hotel, known as Wapek Delicacies is on the first floor of Queensway House and can be accessed from Mama Ngina Street, opposite International House, or on Kaunda Street next to Queensway House.

Langata aspirant for the member of parliament seat and media personality Jalang’o has a new restaurant in the Nairobi CBD.

Jalang’o says that although he contributed, the project is a partnership between his wife Amina Chao and her friends.

The hotel, known as Wapek Delicacies is on the first floor of Queensway House and can be accessed from Mama Ngina Street, opposite International House, or on Kaunda Street next to Queensway House. Wapek is a Luo term meaning heavy. It was officially opened on the 19th of April 2022.

The hotel will mainly serve traditional foods of African cuisine to move away from the many international dishes and Somali foods served in most hotels in the Central Business District.

However, alcohol will not be part of the menu as his wife is against it due to her Muslim upbringing.

Jalang’o hopes that she will change her mind later as he already set a place to serve alcohol since it brings good money.

The interior of the hotel is nicely done, something that was worked by his wife who is an interior designer.

The hotel will open at 8:00am and close at 11:00pm on a daily basis and one can call 0724767666 for reservations or deliveries.

Jalang’o’s long-time friend and former colleague Alex Mwakideu also opened a hotel in Kitengela early this year, the Pampered Village.

On the closure of the Hilton Hotel in the CBD, Jalang’o remarked that it is a result of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) within the CBD.

He says that the hotel depended on its location to survive as it was easily accessible. However, currently, people will opt to avoid the traffic in the CBD.
