Meet Dennis Ekesa the 3D Visualization Artist
I was first wooed by Ekesa’s work on social media, his expertise stood out to a point of me inviting him on the virtual seat. His story is one of failure that led to success.
- Who are you and what do you do?
I am Dennis Ekesa a 3D visualization artist with a diploma in Interior Design. I graduated 3 years back. I was employed for one year then as an interior designer and used to teach Modeling and software at East Africa College of Architecture and Design (EACAD). Apart from interior design, I also do 3D visualization in landscaping and Architecture.
- How did you start?
Well, during my attachment I was given a task to do but I was not very good with design software so the boss didn’t like my work and I was told to stay at home for two weeks. That hurt me so much and I promised myself to learn and be very good at 3D visualization. I started practicing and that’s how I fell in love with 3D visualization. Later on, I started teaching people.
- What is 3D Visualization and what does it involve?
In simple words, I would say it is making ideas and thoughts visible by the use of design software. Many industries such as Fashion Design, Furniture design use 3D visualization. 3D visualization enables one to see that the idea is functional and can be achieved in a real-life situation. It involves a lot depending on what you are working on, you really need to have a full understanding of what you want to visualize in terms of size and most importantly functionality. 3D visualization is performed by different software depending on the field of work. There are still images and animation video clips to do visualization.
- What makes you an expert in this field?
What makes me an expert in this field? I think my work speaks for itself and the passion I have for what I do. I am always up to date with all the software in my industry hence making me better. If you don’t update yourself with this software, you lag behind because every software updates yearly. Passion drives me more than anything else in this field.
- Are concepts of augmented reality involved in what you do?
Yeah, they are highly involved. Just like I said, you need to have a full understanding of the design being visualized. It’s like making a prototype of something. For most of the work I have done, I normally have to be on site and ensure every aspect is as per the 3D visualization. At some point you be given an already designed space to just visualize, still, you need to understand what the designer really wants in terms of material, texture, color lighting, etc. Anything used in visualization should be available in the market. So yeah, augmented reality is required.
- Do you work alone or do you have a team?
In terms of visualization, I work alone. When it comes to actualizing, I have a team.
- If someone wants to enroll in your 3D visualization class, how long will it take to complete?
Well, it largely depends on the type of software, but in 2 months having done 14 lessons of two hours each. The minimum time is 2 weeks or 1 month for the rendering software.
- How can clients reach you?
