It is the leading wholesaler and distributor of major building materials in Kenya such as paints, cement, adhesives and decorating sundries. It started its operation in 1995.
The current Managing Director, Benjamin Njatha took over from his parents Susan Muthoni Kimani and Barnabas Njunguna who had the brand name coined from their names. Muthoni; MUTHO, Kimani; KI and Njunguna; NJU. The idea to start this business was from the experience of running an eatery at Kenyatta Market in Ngumo Estate.
It has branches spread all over the country. They include the Head Office in Kyang’ombe off Mombasa Road, CBD near the City Market, Kasarani next to Equity Bank along Kasarani-Mwiki Road, Industrial Area, Ruaka next to La-Miguela Guest House, Roasters opposite Mountain Mall, Juja opposite Prize Worthy Supermarket, Kamakis next to Green Spot Garden, Kitengela next to Car & General, Utawala opposite AP Training School, Thika next to Hash Petrol Station, Rongai next to Davis & Shirtliff Rongai, Kiambu Road next to Walkabout Restaurant and Ngong’ next to Gulf Petrol Station, Ngong’.
Out of Nairobi branches are Muranga, Embu, Kerugoya and Karatina.

To reach out to customers who cannot access their physical outlets, they have plans to develop an online platform.
Apart from just building materials, Muthokinju Paints and Cement has a team of interior designers who work with customers to ensure that they get what they desire.
They are in partnership with leading manufacturers which has contributed immensely to its growth and reach. Such include Duracoat, Plascon, Crown Paints, East Africa Portland Cement, Bamburi, Rhino among others.
In September 2021 it was certified for the ISO 9001:2015.
