Mama Ngina Builds Church in Ichaweri, Kiambu County
After many years, the family came together, led by the former first lady, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, to rebuild a new chapel upon the foundations of the one done by Mzee Kenyatta.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta's family recently handed over a church built in honor of his father, the first president of Kenya, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
Mzee Kenyatta built the first Ichaweri Chapel upon his return from detention in 1971.
After many years, the family came together, led by the former first lady, Mama Ngina Kenyatta, to rebuild a new chapel upon the foundations of the one done by Mzee Kenyatta.
Mama Ngina president Uhuru Kenyatta, the family members, and the congregation attended the consecration of the new John the Baptist chapel in Ichaweri, Kiambu County.
“The Mzee really desired to have a worshipping place (church) where individuals would congregate. This started back at home when he was building a house after coming from Maralal, the county of Samburu. We saw later that we brought the branch of the church here to serve the community,” Mama Ngina stated.
“This church was built for the glory of our own living God, and to him, we dedicated this church, and we give thanks,” Uhuru Kenyatta mentioned as he acknowledged all those who had played a role in ensuring its completion.
The family bequests the church. This comes weeks later, when the former president, Uhuru Mwigai Kenyatta, was espied with the Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, in a church service having fundraising bona fide in Kitui County.
The Metropolitan Archbishop of Nairobi, Rev. Philip Anyolo, presided over the service. Bridging was done inside the church, luxurious furniture was well arranged, and stained glass windows were installed for decoration purposes and as an indication of humanity and serving the almighty God.
