Kisumu Boys’ High School Set for Demolitions by County Government
The county government of Kisumu is set to demolish Kisumu Boys’ High School. The city is to revamp its CBD, and according to reports, the land is to accommodate a mall and other commercial buildings.
The school and two others namely, Kisumu Girls School and Manyatta Arabs School are to be relocated to another district. The Jua kali market, the main bus terminus and the county referral hospital will also be affected by the move.
Kisumu Boys High School is one of the oldest schools in the county and prominent Kenyans who studied there are Babu Owino who is the Member of Parliament of Embakasi East Constituency, Erick Omondi the popular comedian and his brother, legislator Olago Aluoch among others.
In the article about eminent domain, it was evident that the government has the constitutional right to take private land and use it for the public good. In this case, it is public land and the government has control over it.
Some say that this will be a good move as the county will be given a facelift, while others claim that it is an unnecessary disruption to the students and the common mwananchi. What’s your take on this?
