Nakuru's Town Real Estate Development
Nakuru once a small town that started in the early 1900s has slowly developed and it is now on the verge of being a city. Through the years, there has been development in many sectors that have enhanced urbanization within the town. Be it agricultural, banking, infrastructure there have been many paces taken in the right direction.
Real estate or rather the buildings have evolved even as the town slowly developed. Taking a trip down memory lane, we look at some of the older buildings that have been there and we travel all the way to see the newest buildings that make Nakuru what it is today.
In 1930, Nakuru became a township and this was the beginning of it all, at the time the town only had a few notable building, and The Rift Valley Sports Club is perhaps the first place one could start, this was constructed by one Albert Speke soon after the Completion of the Railway Line in Nakuru, Lord Delamere came along and build the Nakuru Hotel (now the Midlands Hotel) and soon after other businesses opened up along the Donald Avenue (now the Kenyatta Avenue).
Fast forward to about 1990, Nakuru had started taking shape and it had officially become a town. C.K Patel at the time was the tallest building and it was an 11 storey building and it housed private companies and businesses. Some other prominent mentions at the time were Odeon Gate House, Ndimu House among others.
From there onwards, many buildings came up all over the town and slowly by slowly it grew and now as we speak, Nakuru has so many buildings, West Side Mall, the first-ever mall in Nakuru that was built in 2011 soon after Tower One replaced C.K Patel as the tallest building in Nakuru in around 2017 and now the Jeniffer Riria Hub and the Golden Mall that are soon coming up and show promise of being some of the best buildings in the town.
Nakuru is on the right path when it comes to urban development as it awaits to be accorded the honors of becoming the fourth city in Kenya.
