Interesting Facts You Didn’t Know About Afya Center

For most people who didn’t grow up in Nairobi, the Afya Center building is a landmark that helped them find their way in the vast central business district of the capital city.
Unbeknownst to most, the 21-storey high-rise building is owned by shareholders of the Afya Sacco Society.
Headed by Beatrice Mogire, the SACCO which was founded on May 8, 1971, as the Afya Co-operative Savings and Credit Society by 20 founder members has grown to have over 38,000 members over the years.
The SACCO owns the iconic building alongside other properties in the city including mansionettes along Kamburu Drive.
"...This comprises 16 residential maisonettes located at Kamburu Drive off Ngong Road and Afya Co-operative Center, a 21-storey high-rise building situated in Nairobi city. Afya Investments are fully owned by the shareholders of Afya Sacco," it stated on its website.

Afya center houses several businesses including restaurants, clinics, and banks. It is also situated close to most long-distance public vehicles terminuses, such as those heading to the Western part of the country and Rift Valley.
The SACCO gets money from renting out its maisonettes and the building which is paid as dividends to its members. The heads of the SACCO note that their primary aim is to promote a culture of accelerated monthly savings from members. It is through savings that members can be given loans.
The National chairperson Mrs. Mogire is assisted in leading the SACCO by Henry Kosgei who serves as the national vice chairman.
Other members are Alex Maweu (honorary secretary), Charles Ottaro (national treasurer), and Peter Gisemba (chief executive officer). James Njuguna, Paul Kiptoo, Jackline Obonyo, Benson Mbae, and Prudenciana Wafula are the directors.
