Govt’s Ongoing Affordable Housing Projects in These 10 Towns in Nairobi
These developments in the residential sector will enhance the living standards of the majority of people in the nation by providing affordable living spaces.
President William Ruto announced that his government is working on constructing at least 42,000 affordable housing units within two months from December 2022.
Leading the agenda of constructing affordable housing units, the government has partnered with relevant investors and institutions and the following projects are in the pipeline to achieve the affordable housing initiative.
1,562 housing units are being constructed under the Pangani Affordable Housing Program, whereas 2,720 units are being developed by the government in partnership with Edderman Property Limited under the River Estate Affordable Housing Program in Ngara.
1,370 housing units are also constructed in Ngara under the Park Road Affordable Housing Program by the National Housing Corporation. The government institution recently launched the construction of 15,000 units of the Mukuru Affordable Housing Program in Mukuru Kwa Njenga.
National Housing Corporation also has ongoing 50 and 120 units in Athi River. Moreover, the National Government is putting up 2,600 and 3,000 units in Starehe and Kibera areas respectively and an additional 3,000 units in Starehe in partnership with Tecnofin Kenya Limited.
In addition, there are several existing projects initiated by the private development that may help hasten the program. They include:
1,824 units in Ruiru by Skymore Pine Limited,30,000 units in Athi River by Moke Gardens Real Estate, 8,888 in Mavoko by Afra Holding Limited, and 3,200 units by Tsavo Real Estate in Embakasi, Riruta, Roysambu, and Rongai.
Unity Homes is developing 3,000 units in Tatu City, 561 units are constructed by Karibu Homes in Athi River, and Kings Serenity is putting up 734 houses in Rongai. Finally, 440 housing units are being constructed in Syokimau by Joinven Investments Limited. All the highlighted housing projects add up to 48, 647 affordable housing units.

The government intends to construct over 200,000 houses each year to ensure over six million Kenyans living in informal settlements can get access to affordable houses.
