The current oversupply of office spaces, which has seen Nairobi offer the lowest prices in the entire continent, got me thinking.

There is always a constant appetite to invest in the real estate sector, other than becoming victims of the now crowded apartments and office space markets, what other Powerful alternatives can we seek? The following highlights some of them:

1. Retirement villages

"As the elderly parents become further removed from their adult children due to rural-urban migration and professional lives, more families become more pressured when faced with the need to take care of their elderly,"  Andrew Shirley.

Well, this could be easily solved by investing in Retirement villages which are a cluster of residential properties in beautiful surroundings (trees, flowers, water park, walking track, sits under trees and such alike) with on-site caretakers (well-trained personnel), medical facilities and medical staff, the homes should be serviced that is catering and cleaning services offered within.

This will not only create jobs but promote decent living for the elderly.

2. Student Housing

"Accommodation in the education sector has not been accorded the attention it deserves despite the constant increase in the number of students in need of suitable accommodation, " Phillip Hillman.

This could be solved by having the private sector invest in this. Just like qwetu homes, there could be more and similar or even better student housing facilities to satisfy the need in this market. However while at it the pricing should be in such a way to accommodate even the lowest of the society (we will discuss this at a later date).

With that, we will achieve #educationforall.

3. Serviced apartments

Dunhill Investments has established this to be an emerging trend. This market is fast growing and it could possibly be a positive alternative asset class.

4. Storage warehouses- logistics department

This is also a growing and great return on investment at the current time.
