Second Phase of Affordable Housing in Nairobi Kicks Off
Pangani and Jevanjee are the flagships of the first phase of affordable housing in Nairobi. Phase two will see the construction of houses in 10 estates in Nairobi.
Woodley, Jericho, Lumumba, Ziwani, Maringo, Bahati, California, Kariobangi North, Embakasi, and Bondeni are the estates in Nairobi where the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) is set to build 60,000 houses to buy or rent.
Bahati will have 12,000 storied buildings of 6-16 floors that will be three, two, and one bedroom. Bondeni 774, California 2500, Woodley 6000, Embakasi 4000, Kariobangi North 1500, Lumumba 10000, and Maringo 8,000.
This will mark the second phase of the affordable housing project that is geared towards solving the housing problem. The first phase which began in June 2020 was in seven estates in Nairobi that include Uhuru Estate, New and Old Ngara, Pangani, Jevanjee, Suna Road, and Ngong Road Phase one and two.

Ms. Rono who is the NMS Housing and Urban Renewal Deputy Director said that they are embarking on the development of the 10 estates to address the housing backlog in Nairobi. She also added that all the units are under the affordable housing bracket of Kshs. One million is already sold out.
This is a public-private partnership project and will provide affordable low costing and accessible housing.
