Intruders have set on fire Kenya’s Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s family farm, Northlands City.

The incident follows an invasion that took place earlier in the day by unknown individuals who looted and destroyed the property.

Armed with power saws and other weapons, the intruders cut down trees and made away with livestock that was being reared on the farm.

The 11,576-acre parcel of land located along the Eastern Bypass in Ruiru is owned by Kenya's founding father, Jomo Kenyatta's family.

No official statement has been issued yet on the incident.

The 11,000-acre farm, Northlands City, was set to host a real estate haven that included low and high-income residential areas, an agricultural zone, an industrial area, and schools.

It is estimated that the project would cost up to Ksh500 billion and with a population of at least 250,000 people benefiting from it.

The Northlands City masterplan had set aside some 3,570 acres for housing. 3,134 acres of these, were earmarked for low-density housing, 306 for high-density housing, and 130 acres for medium-density residential housing.

The low-density housing section was set to hold 601 villas. In addition,1,320 townhouses were to be put up in the same segment. The medium-density segment area is reserved for 368 housing units blocks of flats and some 670 townhouses. There will be 6,980 units in blocks of flats and a further 3,100 townhouses in the high-density residential housing area.

The plan sets aside some 390 acres for a business district. 33 acres of these, are set aside for a shopping mall or a hotel, and two acres for a clubhouse.

695 acres of the property were earmarked for an industrial park out of which 650 acres are for a logistics park and the rest for the Brookside Dairies.

The biggest piece of this land, 5,156 acres, has been set aside for wildlife conservation as well as agriculture whose occupant will be the Gicheha farm. Further, some 1,697 acres have been earmarked for open recreational space.

In 2018’s fourth quarter, the construction works kicked off and will see the connection of plots to roads, sewerage, electricity, internet, and water. The whole project will be executed in four phases which will take over 50 years span.
