Kenya is taking significant steps towards increasing its renewable energy production, with a particular focus on wind power. The country's first large-scale wind farm, the 310 MW Lake Turkana Wind Power project, was completed in 2018 and is currently the largest wind farm in Africa. This project has paved the way for further wind farm development in Kenya, with several other wind power projects currently under construction or in the planning stages.

One such project is the Kipeto Wind Power Project, located approximately 50 km south of Nairobi. This project is expected to have a capacity of 100 MW and will consist of 60 wind turbines. Construction of the Kipeto Wind Power Project began in 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2021. Once operational, the project is expected to provide clean energy to approximately 250,000 households in Kenya.

Another wind power project in development is the Meru County Wind Park, which is expected to have a capacity of 80 MW. This project will be located in the central region of Kenya, in an area with high wind speeds and low population density. The project is expected to be completed in 2022.

In addition to these large-scale projects, there are also several smaller wind power projects in development throughout Kenya. One such project is the Ngong Hills Wind Power Project, which began operations in 2015. This project has a capacity of 25.5 MW and consists of 16 wind turbines.

The development of wind power in Kenya is driven by the country's growing energy demand, as well as the need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and decrease greenhouse gas emissions. Kenya has set a target of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2030, and wind power is expected to play a significant role in achieving this goal.
